The blog comprises of two main  parts: a brief introduction to Voki, a comprehensive guide on integrating Voki into language education. Read on to explore how Voki can transform the way you teach and learn languages!

What is Voki?

To put it plainly, Voki is an online platform that enables users to creat their own unique avatars with diverse features, which have the ability to  speak using a variety of languages and voices.

How to create your Voki?

There are two steps in the design of the Voki:

  • Firstly, you can customize the appearance of your avatar to suit your preferences. There are numerous options available such as selecting skin tone, eyes and hair colour, clothing and accessories. You are free to modify your design at any point but it is important to  save the avatar you have designed by clicking SAVE. Then once you are content with the character you can click  PUBLISH to share it with others.

  • Next, you will incorporate a voice to your character. There are three options for you:
  1. Text-to-speech: You can input the text you want your character to say, and it will automatically generate a voice.
  2. Record with microphone: You can use your computer's microphone to record your own voice for the character to speak.
  3. Upload an audio file: If you have a pre-recorded audio file saved on your computer, you can upload it to be used as the character's voice.

So after learning about Voki, are you already eager to create your own talking avatar? If so, let's don't wait and explore how to effectively integrate it into language education!

How to integrate it into language education?

1. Voki Quiz

The teacher first creates an avatar and record your voice. Then, present the Voki avatar to students and ask them questions about it, such as "What is her favorite color?" or "How old is she?" Students can write down their guesses and later read them aloud. Finally, play the Voki avatar's recording to reveal the correct answers and see who had the most accurate guesses.

2. News story

One possible activity for students using Voki is to write and create a news story. This could involve reporting on either current events or historical occurrences. Other options include presenting an on-the-scene report, making a public service announcement, or conducting an interview with a well-known figure.

I hope that after reading this blog about Voki, you have gained some valuable insightsπŸ’¬ into a novel approach to English language education that can help motivate students. See you!πŸ˜€
